ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE USAGE POLICY

JBPT follows the ethical guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) regarding the use of artificial intelligence–assisted technologies in scholarly publishing.

Authors must disclose at the time of submission whether AI tools (including large language models, chatbots, or image-generation software) were used in the preparation of the manuscript. The nature and extent of such use must be clearly described in the cover letter and within the manuscript, where appropriate. AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors, as they cannot take responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, originality, or ethical compliance of the work. Human authors remain fully accountable for all content generated or assisted by AI.

Authors must carefully review and edit AI-assisted outputs to ensure accuracy, completeness, absence of bias, and compliance with plagiarism standards. Proper attribution and citation of all quoted or referenced material, including content assisted by AI, is mandatory. Authors must also confirm that AI-generated text or images do not violate copyright or ethical standards.

JBPT adheres to the updated ICMJE Recommendations (January 2024), which require acknowledgment of AI assistance in scholarly work and regulate the use of AI tools in the editorial and peer-review process to protect confidentiality, integrity, and transparency.
